How does designing a Christopher home work?
Christopher invites you to its Design Studio soon after you sign. Its Customer Journey guide breaks the design work into phases.
- Behind the drywall: lighting control, home automation, plumbing, and appliances.
- Interior finishes: your finish choices for inside the home.
- Outdoor elements: landscaping and pool choices.
- Tracking the build: Christopher says buyers get an iPad with their documents and progress photos of the home.
Buying a Signature home instead? Christopher says those can be ready in as little as 90 to 120 days, and you can still pick some finishes.
How does buying from Christopher Homes work?
Christopher lays out five steps in its Customer Journey guide, starting the day you sign your purchase agreement.
- Personalize the floor plan with a Christopher Luxury Home Specialist.
- Design the home at the Design Studio.
- Build. At the foundation celebration you get a three-month completion window, and at the pre-drywall tour a two-month window.
- Final steps. Pre-closing starts 60 days before delivery. Then a walkthrough, the title meeting, and a home orientation where you get your warranty papers and keys.
- Move in.
Christopher does not publish its deposit amounts, a build timeline for a new Design-Build home, or a preferred lender. Ask what is due at contract and at each step, and what is refundable.
What should you know before buying a Christopher home?
A few things are worth checking before you sign with Christopher Homes.
- Get the warranty in writing. Christopher's warranty page explains how to request service, but not what the warranty covers or for how long. Here is how new home warranties work in Nevada.
- Confirm the price. Some of Christopher's pages show different prices for the same plan. Ask for the current price on your exact homesite.
- Ask about the HOA and the club. Christopher does not list HOA dues, and it calls the DragonRidge golf course members-only. Ask what is required and what it costs. My notes on MacDonald Highlands HOA fees can help.
- Plan for stairs. Of the five plans with prices shown, only Residence 3 Single-Level is one level. The rest are two or three levels.
- Supply is small. Christopher has one community selling, and only six SkyVu homesites are set aside for Residence 6.
