Pharmacists and Lab Technicians Qualifying for Worker Advantage

by Ryan Rose

Pharmacists and laboratory technicians keep Nevada's healthcare system running through medication management and diagnostic testing. The state's Worker Advantage Program offers both professions $20,000 in down payment assistance to purchase a home.

Who Qualifies

Both pharmacist and laboratory technician appear on the Worker Advantage Program's list of 47 eligible essential worker professions. At least one borrower on the mortgage must work full time in one of these roles. You need a minimum 640 credit score, six months of Nevada residency, and household income at or below 150% of the area median income. In Clark County, that cap is $142,350.

The program is open to repeat buyers as well as first time purchasers. The maximum purchase price reaches $832,750, and the home must be your primary residence.

Grant Structure

The $20,000 is delivered as a 0% interest second mortgage with no monthly payments required. You repay the balance only when you sell, refinance, or reach the end of the 30 year term. The funds can go toward your down payment, closing costs, or a mortgage rate buydown that reduces your monthly payment.

For pharmacists who may carry significant student loan debt from their PharmD programs, the zero payment structure keeps monthly obligations manageable. Lab technicians entering the workforce with associate or bachelor level education can use the full $20,000 to minimize their upfront costs.

Where These Professionals Work in Las Vegas

Pharmacists work across hospital pharmacies, retail chains, and specialty compounding facilities throughout the valley. Major health systems including UMC, Valley Health System, and Dignity Health all operate hospital pharmacies with full time staff.

Laboratory technicians perform diagnostic work in hospital labs at all 23 valley hospitals, as well as at independent laboratory facilities and outpatient testing centers. Both professions find employment opportunities across every part of the Las Vegas metro area.
