Las Vegas Metro Area Homes Near Correctional Facilities

by Ryan Rose

Correctional officers, detention specialists, and support staff who work at jails and prisons in the Las Vegas metro area often face long commutes and demanding schedules. Living closer to your facility can reduce stress and give you more time at home. The Nevada Worker Advantage Program offers $20,000 in down payment assistance to help correctional workers buy a home near where they work.

Correctional Facilities Across the Las Vegas Metro

Several correctional and detention facilities operate throughout the region, each surrounded by different housing options at different price points.

Clark County Detention Center (CCDC) sits in downtown Las Vegas and is the primary booking and holding facility for the valley. Staff assigned here can explore revitalized downtown neighborhoods, the Arts District, and communities along Charleston and Sahara. Home prices near downtown range from the low $300,000s for condos to the mid $400,000s for single family homes.

Las Vegas City Detention Center at 3300 Stewart Ave is located in the eastern part of the city near downtown. Neighborhoods along Stewart, Bonanza, and Boulder Highway offer homes at price points below the Las Vegas median of $482,000.

North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center at 2332 Las Vegas Blvd N serves the North Las Vegas area. Nearby neighborhoods along Las Vegas Boulevard and Craig Road offer some of the most affordable housing in the metro area, with prices starting in the $300,000s. Aliante and the North Valley corridor are also within a reasonable drive.

Henderson City Jail serves the Henderson municipal court system. Staff working here can take advantage of Henderson's safe, family oriented neighborhoods. Median prices in Henderson sit around $495,000, with more affordable options near Water Street and the original Henderson townsite.

High Desert State Prison is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Las Vegas along Highway 95. Staff commuting from the northwest valley, including neighborhoods in Centennial Hills, Skye Canyon, and the 215 Beltway corridor, can keep drive times manageable. Homes in the northwest range from $430,000 to $480,000.

$20,000 for Correctional Workers

The Worker Advantage Program provides $20,000 as a 0% interest, no payment second mortgage. Correctional officers and dispatchers are among the twelve public safety positions that qualify. The grant applies to your down payment, closing costs, or a rate buydown.

At the North Las Vegas median of $410,000, the $20,000 covers nearly 5% of the purchase price. Even near Henderson at $495,000, the grant handles more than 4%. Combined with an FHA loan, many correctional workers can buy with little to no additional cash out of pocket.

Ryan Rose: One Local Insight

Correctional staff often have the least flexible schedules of any public safety workers I help. Mandatory overtime and rotating shifts mean you need a home that keeps your commute short and predictable. I have helped officers at CCDC find homes in revitalized downtown neighborhoods and helped High Desert staff find homes in the northwest that cut their drive to under 30 minutes. The $20,000 Worker Advantage grant makes these options realistic.
