What Happened to the Badlands Golf Course in Queensridge?
The Badlands Golf Course was a 27 hole desert links style golf course that once surrounded large portions of the Queensridge community in western Las Vegas. For years, it served as both a recreational amenity and a defining landscape feature for Queensridge homeowners. The course has since closed, and the 250 acre property is now approved for residential development by Lennar Homes following one of the most significant land use disputes in Las Vegas history.
The Original Golf Course
Badlands Golf Club featured three nine hole courses designed to wind through the natural desert terrain adjacent to Queensridge. The layout took advantage of elevation changes, desert washes, and native landscaping to create a course that felt distinct from the manicured green fairways found elsewhere in Las Vegas. Queensridge homeowners along the course perimeter enjoyed open space views and a buffer of maintained land surrounding their properties.
Closure and Decline
The golf course ceased operations and gradually fell into disrepair. As the greens and fairways deteriorated, the open views that Queensridge homeowners had valued began to change. The property owner pursued plans to convert the defunct course into residential housing, which triggered immediate opposition from nearby residents and homeowner groups who argued the land should remain open space.
The Legal Battle
The dispute over the Badlands property became one of the longest and most expensive land use battles in Las Vegas. Queensridge homeowners and community groups challenged the development plans through multiple legal and regulatory channels. Ultimately, the Las Vegas City Council approved the residential development, and the courts awarded over $223 million in total damages to the developer. The legal resolution cleared the way for construction to proceed.
Lennar Homes Development
Lennar Homes, one of the largest residential builders in the country, is approved to develop new housing on the former 250 acre Badlands property. While specific details on home styles, pricing, and timelines continue to emerge, the project will add new residential inventory directly adjacent to the established Queensridge community. This development is covered in detail in a separate post on new construction at Queensridge.
Impact on Queensridge Property Values
The transition from golf course to housing development is a significant change for the Queensridge area. Some homeowners who previously overlooked open fairways will see new construction on adjacent parcels. At the same time, new housing by a major national builder can generate increased buyer interest and market activity in the broader Queensridge corridor. The long term impact on property values will depend on the quality and pricing of the finished homes.
