Dog Parks in Southern Highlands
Southern Highlands welcomes four legged family members with two dedicated dog parks and pet friendly policies throughout the community. Dog owners enjoy well maintained off leash areas where pets can run, play, and socialize in a safe environment.
Cactus Jones Dog Park
Cactus Jones Dog Park serves as the primary off leash destination for Southern Highlands dog owners. Located at the southeast corner of Cactus Avenue and Jones Boulevard, this thoughtfully designed facility features three separate fenced areas designated for small, medium, and large dogs. This separation ensures pets of all sizes can play safely with appropriately matched companions.
The park provides shaded seating areas for owners, water stations for thirsty pups, and waste disposal stations throughout. Double gated entries prevent escape artists from slipping out during arrivals and departures. The park operates daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Fire Station Dog Park
The Fire Station Dog Park offers an additional off leash option near the Fire Station Plaza retail area. This smaller park provides a convenient stop for residents in the northern portion of Southern Highlands. While more compact than Cactus Jones, it maintains the same cleanliness standards and includes basic amenities for quick visits.
Pet Friendly Community
Beyond the dedicated dog parks, Southern Highlands welcomes leashed dogs throughout its extensive park system and along the Paseo trail. Many residents enjoy morning and evening walks through the community's tree lined streets and landscaped common areas. The neighborhood's wide sidewalks and relatively low traffic make it ideal for dog walking.
Individual HOA rules regarding pets vary by subdivision, so buyers should verify specific restrictions before purchasing. Most neighborhoods permit dogs with standard size and breed considerations.
Local Expert Insight
Ryan Rose frequently works with buyers who consider their dogs when choosing a neighborhood. Southern Highlands stands out for genuinely embracing pets rather than merely tolerating them. The dedicated dog parks see regular use, and the community's overall maintenance ensures clean, pleasant spaces for both dogs and their owners.
