Red Rock Canyon Near The Paseos Summerlin

by Ryan Rose

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is roughly 15 minutes from The Paseos, making it one of the closest major outdoor destinations to any neighborhood in Las Vegas. Residents along the western edge of the community enjoy direct views of the canyon's sandstone formations right from their backyards.

How Far Is Red Rock Canyon from The Paseos?

The Paseos sits at approximately 3,000 feet of elevation in western Summerlin, and Red Rock Canyon is a short drive west along Charleston Boulevard or Summerlin Parkway. The drive takes roughly 15 minutes depending on your starting point within the 768 acre village. No other master planned community in Las Vegas puts you this close to Red Rock while still offering suburban convenience. Homes on the western perimeter of The Paseos back up to open desert, giving owners unobstructed sightlines toward the conservation area.

What Can You Do at Red Rock Canyon?

The centerpiece of Red Rock Canyon is the scenic 13 mile drive loop, a one way road that winds through towering red and cream colored sandstone formations. Visitors can stop at overlooks, picnic areas, and trailheads along the route. Hiking trails range from easy one mile walks to strenuous summit routes. Rock climbing is world class here, drawing climbers from across the country. Mountain biking and horseback riding are also permitted on designated trails. The conservation area spans over 195,000 acres of Mojave Desert landscape.

Is Red Rock Canyon Free to Visit?

The Bureau of Land Management operates the conservation area and charges a vehicle entry fee for the scenic drive. Annual passes are available and popular with local residents who visit frequently. The fee covers access to the scenic loop, parking areas, and maintained trailheads. Many Paseos residents purchase annual passes and treat Red Rock as their personal backyard trail system, visiting multiple times per week for morning hikes or sunset drives.

Living near Red Rock Canyon is one of the biggest lifestyle perks I highlight when showing homes in The Paseos. My clients who hike or trail run consistently tell me the proximity to Red Rock was a deciding factor in choosing this neighborhood. The western views from elevated homesites in The Paseos are some of the best in all of Summerlin, especially at sunset when the canyon walls glow red and orange.
