Why Paddleboards Are Not Allowed in Desert Shores

by Ryan Rose

Paddleboards are not allowed on the Desert Shores lakes per the official Desert Shores Community Association (DSCA) "Our Lakes" policy. Residents and guests cannot use stand up paddleboards on Lake Jacqueline, Lake Sarah, Lake Maddison, or Lake Lindsey.

Why are paddleboards prohibited in Desert Shores?

The DSCA "Our Lakes" page lists the approved watercraft for the four private lakes: electric boats, rowboats, paddle boats, sculls, single hull sailboats, pontoon boats, kayaks, and canoes. Stand up paddleboards (SUPs) are not on the approved list, which means they are not permitted under DSCA policy.

The community also enforces an 8 foot minimum length on all boats. Most paddleboards measure 9 to 12 feet, so length is not the issue; the prohibition is a category decision by the association, not a size limit. The current restriction has been in place on the official DSCA lakes page for years.

Why does this matter for Desert Shores buyers?

Several real estate listing sites and third party Las Vegas tour pages incorrectly state that paddleboards are allowed in Desert Shores. They are not. Buyers who plan to paddleboard regularly should verify directly with the DSCA before assuming the activity is permitted at their home lake. Lake Mead, Lake Las Vegas (with permits), and other public Las Vegas water bodies remain open to SUP use.

Approved alternatives that fit a similar paddling profile include kayaks, canoes, and sculls. All three are explicitly permitted by DSCA policy, follow the 8 foot minimum length rule, and operate within the dawn to 10:30 PM boating hours.

Why a Local Desert Shores Agent Matters Here

Ryan Rose of Rose Homes LV regularly corrects buyers who arrive expecting to paddleboard on Desert Shores water. The DSCA prohibition is real and well documented on the official site. Buyers who want lakefront paddling should plan around kayaks or canoes, both of which deliver a similar low impact experience without violating community rules.
