The Four Lakes of Desert Shores: A Complete Overview

by Ryan Rose

Desert Shores Las Vegas features four private resident only lakes: Lake Jacqueline (the largest at 24.8 acres), Lake Sarah, Lake Maddison, and Lake Lindsey, totaling roughly 100 acres of water surface across the 682 acre community.

What are the four lakes of Desert Shores?

Lake Jacqueline is the centerpiece, stretching over a mile long and covering 24.8 acres. The lake hosts Restaurant Row, where Marche Bacchus, Americana, and Daily Bread LV serve waterfront diners. Lakes Sarah, Maddison, and Lindsey each measure about 12 acres. All four lakes are named after the four oldest granddaughters of community founder Hal.

Each lake features community docks, fishing access, and connecting walking paths. Residents 14 and older need a digital DSCA membership ID to use the boats, the beach, and the fishing piers.

What can residents do on the Desert Shores lakes?

The lakes are stocked annually each spring with bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Fishing is catch and release only, and residents do not need a Nevada state fishing license as long as they hold a current DSCA membership. Fishing hours run from dawn until dusk, and households can bring up to four fishing guests at a time.

Boating is permitted on electric boats, rowboats, paddle boats, sculls, single hull sailboats, pontoon boats, kayaks, and canoes. Boating hours extend from dawn until 10:30 PM. Paddleboards are prohibited per official DSCA policy, so residents who want to paddleboard need to head to a public lake outside the community.

Why are the Desert Shores lakes unique in Las Vegas?

Desert Shores is the only major Las Vegas neighborhood with four privately owned lakes available exclusively to residents. The community predates Lake Las Vegas, and the lake amenities give homeowners year round access to water activities without leaving the city. The lakefront premium runs roughly $100,000 to $200,000 over equivalent non waterfront homes, reflecting the limited supply of waterfront lots.

Local Insight from Ryan Rose

With deep familiarity inside Desert Shores, Ryan Rose helps clients understand which lake fits their lifestyle: Jacqueline for restaurant access and longer kayaking, the smaller lakes for quieter waterfront living. Rose Homes LV regularly tours buyers along all four lakes so the differences become obvious before they commit.
