The Game Plan: Hours, Schedule and What You Will See

Here are the hours, straight from the City of Henderson and Vegas PBS. Friday, Oct. 2, the show runs from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, it runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free both days. There are no tickets, no wristbands and no lines to buy anything just to walk in.

The city says the show will have hundreds of classic vehicles, trucks and motorcycles on display. There will be more than 35 vendors, plus the shops and restaurants that already call the Water Street District home. The event is presented with the Boulder City Cruisin' Association, which handles car registration and the car show awards.

Friday is the evening show. The main stage opens at 5 p.m. with an emcee and a DJ. The band Velvet Moon plays at 6:15 p.m. The headliner, Electric Avenue, The 80's MTV Experience, goes on at 8:15 p.m. If you want to see the cars in the cooler evening air and catch some live music, Friday is your night.

Saturday is the full day. The main stage runs from morning into the evening, with Bradley Love at 9 a.m., Casey Stickley at 10:30 a.m., Car Show Bingo and Bag Quest at noon, The Fox and The Hounds at 1:30 p.m., Tossing Steel at 2:45 p.m. and Radical West at 4 p.m. The car show awards happen on the awards stage at 6 p.m. Saturday. If you want to see which cars take home trophies, plan to stick around until the end.

One more timing detail that matters if you are hungry. The city says all sales end at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. So if you are planning dinner from a food truck, do not wait until the last song.

Food and drink vendors on the city's list include pop-up bar and street-food trucks, hot dogs, shaved ice, fudge, glazed nuts and beef jerky. On Saturday only, the Wienermobile is also on the vendor list, which is a fun photo stop for kids. Vendor lists can change, so treat it as a preview, not a promise.

Parking, Street Closures and What It Means for Neighbors

Let's start with parking, because it is the question everyone asks. Free parking is available at the Water Street Parking Garage, 235 S. Water St., directly across from Water Street Plaza. During Hot Rod Days, the city says you get in from Texas Avenue, since Water Street is closed. There is also parking at the Henderson City Hall garage, with access off Basic Road.

The city is clear that parking is limited. Because it expects big crowds, it recommends carpooling or using a rideshare. The suggested drop-off spot is 58 S. Water St., with access off Pacific Avenue. There is no shuttle service. If you drive, arrive early. If you live close enough to walk, the city is asking you to walk.

Now the closures. According to the city's 2026 street closure notice, Water Street closes from Ocean Avenue to Victory Road, and E. Army Street closes from Water Street to Texas Avenue. The timeline looks like this:

Thursday, Oct. 1 at 11 p.m.: No street or curbside parking on those blocks. If you normally leave your car on Water Street overnight, move it before then.

Friday, Oct. 2 starting at 3 a.m.: Intermittent closures begin as crews get ready.

Friday, Oct. 2 at 5 a.m. through Sunday, Oct. 4 at 12:30 a.m.: Complete street closure.

That means the street is closed all day Friday, long before the show starts at 4 p.m. If you work downtown, run a business on Water Street, or use Water Street as your shortcut to Lake Mead Parkway, plan a different route for both days. The city also says there is no early move-in, pre-parking or space saving for show cars on Thursday, and unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.

For residents in the older neighborhoods around downtown Henderson, this is a mixed bag. The good part is obvious: a free, two-day car show you can walk to. The harder part is traffic and parking on the side streets. If you are having guests over this weekend, give them directions that avoid Water Street. Let your delivery drivers know too. A two-line text on Thursday will save a lot of circling on Saturday.

The city also asks show visitors to be respectful of Water Street District businesses and residents. That means no blocking homes, shops or sidewalks with chairs, tents or vehicles, and picking up your own trash. The rules also say no open cruising, no roaring engines and no burnouts in or around the event area. For neighbors, that is a welcome detail.

For everyone else in the valley, it is an easy drive. The city's directions say that from US-93/US-95 in either direction, or from eastbound I-215, you head east on Lake Mead Parkway toward Water Street. Just remember that this weekend you will want to turn off before Water Street and come in from Texas Avenue or Basic Road to reach the garages.

The Water Street District Keeps Growing Into a Real Neighborhood Draw

Water Street is Henderson's historic downtown. For a long time, a lot of people in the valley drove past it on the way to somewhere else. That has changed. Today the Water Street District is a place people plan a trip around, and Hot Rod Days is one of the clearest examples.

The anchor is Water Street Plaza. The city calls it Henderson's premier entertainment venue, and KNPR's Best of the City 2024 awards named it the Best Outdoor Family Events Venue. The city says the district has several free public parking lots and two public garages. Put all of that together and you get something that is still pretty rare in Clark County: a walkable downtown with a public gathering space, pro hockey practices, restaurants and bars, all a short stroll from each other.

That is why an event like Hot Rod Days has room to grow. The show is not in a parking lot off a freeway. It is on a real main street, with real businesses that stay open while it happens. The city even lists the businesses in the Water Street District as part of the event. That tells you the goal is not just to bring cars in for a weekend. It is to get people to walk the district, find a place they like, and come back.

Seven years in, Hot Rod Days has become part of that rhythm. The city calls it one of the most popular events of the year, and Vegas PBS describes it as one of Southern Nevada's largest car shows. Sunday, Oct. 4: The street is set to reopen at 12:30 a.m. By Sunday morning, Water Street should be back to normal.

The city's list of prohibited items includes outside alcohol, coolers, glass containers, umbrellas, pop-up tents, pets (except certified assistance animals), smoking and vaping, drones, and skateboards, scooters and bicycles while on the event grounds. The car show rules also say drinks must be in plastic containers and bought on site. Bags are subject to search. Traveling light gets you in faster.

Plan for sun and walking. The whole event is outdoors, and the grounds stretch about a mile. The city says there are no mobility scooter or wheelchair rentals, so bring what your family needs. Since umbrellas and pop-up tents are not allowed, hats, sunscreen and comfortable shoes are your shade plan. If you bike or scoot over, lock up at a nearby rack and walk the car show area.

Keep the kids close and safe. Children under 16 must be with a parent or guardian. The city also has a smart tip for parents of small kids: take a photo of your child on your phone when you arrive.
