Black Mountain Nature Preserve Henderson

by Ryan Rose

Black Mountain Nature Preserve is a planned 1,372 acre park and trail system in south Henderson, NV. The City of Henderson received over $5.6 million in funding through the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act to develop this preserve, which will protect the north end of the McCullough Range while adding new recreational and educational amenities. The project is currently in its master design phase, with a public Trail Route Workshop held in December 2025 to gather community input.

What Will Black Mountain Nature Preserve Include?

The preserve will feature approximately 4 miles of planned trails designed to connect with several existing routes in the area. Once complete, hikers and trail runners will be able to access Hidden Falls Park, the Amargosa Trail, McCullough Hills Trail, and the Anthem East Trail directly from the preserve.

The master plan focuses on balancing recreation with conservation. Interpretive signage, educational features, and carefully routed trails will allow visitors to experience the rugged desert landscape without compromising the ecological integrity of the land. The design team, Lage Design, is developing the plan with public feedback from multiple community workshops.

When Will the Nature Preserve Open?

The preserve is still in the planning and design stage. The December 2025 Trail Route Workshop invited residents to weigh in on proposed trail alignments, with comments accepted throughout that month. While no official opening date has been announced, the project continues to move forward with active community engagement and secured funding already in place.

Residents in the Black Mountain area should watch for future updates from the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation department as construction timelines become clearer.

Why Does This Matter for Black Mountain Homeowners?

A 1,372 acre nature preserve is not a small addition. Once complete, it will rank among the largest public parks in all of Henderson. Properties near the preserve stand to benefit from direct trail access, increased open space buffers, and the kind of natural setting that attracts outdoor oriented buyers.
