Summerlin Trail System Near Mountain Trails: 200+ Miles of Connected Pathways

by Ryan Rose

Summerlin's trail system is the largest privately developed trail network in Nevada, stretching over 200 miles with plans to exceed 250. For Mountain Trails residents, this award winning system begins just outside the guard gate and connects to parks, schools, shopping, and even Red Rock Canyon.

How Big Is the Summerlin Trail System?

The current network spans more than 200 miles of paved and natural surface pathways. In 2008, it earned the American Trails Developer Award, the first time a private developer received that recognition for a multi use trail system. Summerlin designed six distinct trail types to serve different users: landscaped street side trails, village trails through natural arroyos, wide multi modal paths, separated urban trails, regional connectors, and natural earthen tread trails for hikers.

Can You Walk from Mountain Trails to Parks and Shopping?

Yes. The trail system was specifically designed to link neighborhoods with parks, shopping centers, and schools without requiring a car. From Mountain Trails, residents can walk or bike to The Trails Park, The Trails Community Center, and village retail along connected pathways. The village trails run through natural arroyos, offering quiet, car free routes that feel removed from traffic even though you are minutes from everyday destinations.

Does the Summerlin Trail System Connect to Red Rock Canyon?

Regional trail segments are being built to connect Summerlin's internal network directly to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Bureau of Land Management lands to the west. A 20 mile bike and hike trail linking the community to Red Rock is part of the long term plan. Mountain Trails sits in the western reaches of Summerlin, placing residents closer to these regional connections than most other neighborhoods. Red Rock Canyon is already a 15 minute drive from Mountain Trails, and the trail link will eventually make it accessible on foot or by bike.

Ryan's Take

The trail system is consistently rated as residents' favorite amenity in Summerlin surveys, and I see why. It transforms the way people move through their daily lives. Buyers from other cities are often stunned when I show them that they can bike from their front door to a coffee shop, a park, or a trailhead without crossing a major intersection. For Mountain Trails homeowners, the trail access is a built in lifestyle upgrade that also supports long term property values.
