Setting Up Utilities in Summerlin: New Resident Guide

Moving into a new home in Summerlin means getting several utility accounts set up before or shortly after move in day. The good news is that most providers serve the entire community, so you will not need to research competing options for each service. Here is a step by step breakdown of every account you need, what it costs, and how to get started.

Electricity: NV Energy

NV Energy is the sole electricity provider for Summerlin. You can set up service online or by calling (702) 402-5555. Expect to pay a deposit of roughly 1.5 times your estimated average monthly bill, which typically runs between $135 and $180 per month. Summer bills will be noticeably higher due to air conditioning demand, so budgeting $200 or more for June through September is a smart move.

Water: Las Vegas Valley Water District

The Las Vegas Valley Water District handles all residential water service in Summerlin. Call (702) 870-4194 to open your account. The standard deposit is $150, though LVVWD will waive it if you enroll in autopay. Monthly bills generally land between $50 and $90 depending on lot size and landscaping. Keep in mind that the Southern Nevada Water Authority enforces seasonal watering schedules allowing irrigation one to three days per week, and watering on Sundays is prohibited year round.

Natural Gas: Southwest Gas

Southwest Gas provides natural gas throughout the Las Vegas Valley. You can reach them at (877) 860-6020. Be sure to schedule your account activation at least seven days before you need service, because a technician visit is required to turn on the gas. Monthly costs typically range from $45 to $75, with higher usage in winter for heating.

Trash and Recycling: Republic Services

Republic Services is the primary trash hauler for the area, reachable at (702) 735-5151. In most Summerlin neighborhoods, trash and recycling pickup is included in your HOA dues, so check with your association before setting up a separate account. If your home is not covered by an HOA, you can arrange service directly with Republic.

Sewer: Clark County

Clark County Water Reclamation District handles sewer service. This is billed annually at approximately $295 per year and is usually added to your property tax bill rather than invoiced separately.

What Will Utilities Cost Each Month?

For a typical Summerlin household, total monthly utility expenses land between $275 and $425. That includes electricity, water, gas, and sewer. Trash is usually covered by the HOA. Summer months push the total higher, while winter bills tend to drop.

Tips for a Smooth Setup

Start the process at least two weeks before your move in date. Electricity and water can often be activated with a few days notice, but natural gas requires that seven day lead time for the technician visit. Setting up autopay across all accounts will save you from missed payments and, in the case of LVVWD, waive your deposit entirely.

According to Ryan Rose of the Rose Homes LV team, most new residents are pleasantly surprised by how straightforward utility setup is in Summerlin compared to other major metros.
