No police agency in Southern Nevada publishes an official list of the "safest neighborhoods" in Las Vegas. The most reliable way to judge safety is to look up reported crime near the exact address you are considering, using the free crime maps run by the police department that covers that street.

Which Police Department Covers the Home You Want?

This is the first step, because each agency only maps its own area.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) covers the City of Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County. That includes unincorporated towns like Spring Valley and Enterprise. The LVMPD Foundation notes that Metro splits this area into geographic Area Commands, each with its own station.

Henderson has its own police department. So does North Las Vegas. If the home is in either city, LVMPD data will not show it.

Where Can You Find Official Crime Data?

LVMPD. Metro's statistics page posts a weekly crime report with data by Area Command and year to date totals. As of mid September 2026, the newest report covered the week ending September 13, 2026. The same page links to a crime mapping tool for recent activity on the LVMPD Open Data Portal. Metro notes that the data is preliminary and subject to revision.

Henderson Police. Henderson's Crime Search maps eight types of crime, including burglary and motor vehicle theft. You can search up to a one mile radius around an address, cross street or landmark like a school or park. The database holds 90 days of data and is updated on or about the first working day of each month. For longer trends, Henderson points readers to FBI crime data. The department also reports through the FBI's National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).

FBI Crime Data Explorer. This federal site lets you compare agencies year over year. It works at the city or agency level, not the street level.

How Should You Read the Numbers?

Raw counts can fool you. A News 3 Las Vegas report from November 2025 explained that Metro's weekly statistics cover 10 Area Commands, and each one can span several ZIP codes. A big Area Command with more homes and more businesses will often log more incidents than a small one.

Ryan suggests a few habits:

• Search a small radius around the actual street, not a whole ZIP code
• Look at the type of incident, since a car break in and a home burglary are different
• Check more than one time period, because one busy month can skew things
• Visit at night and on a weekend, then ask future neighbors what they see

Also look at the home itself. Outdoor lighting and the condition of locks are things an inspector or a locksmith can help with.

Is Henderson safer than Las Vegas?

Henderson and Metro use different systems and cover different areas, so compare them with the FBI Crime Data Explorer at the agency level. Then check the street level map for the specific home.

Does a guard gate mean a neighborhood is safe?

A gate controls who drives in. It does not stop all crime. Check the crime map for a gated community the same way you would for any other street.

Can my Realtor tell me which neighborhoods are safe?

Fair housing rules steer Realtors away from calling areas safe or unsafe. A good agent will give you the official sources and help you read them.

How often is Las Vegas crime data updated?

Metro posts a weekly crime report. Henderson updates its Crime Search map about once a month.
