Raku Japanese Izakaya Las Vegas Chinatown

by Ryan Rose

Raku is one of the most critically acclaimed Japanese restaurants in Las Vegas, located at 5030 Spring Mountain Road in the Spring Valley Chinatown corridor. Tokyo born Chef Mitsuo Endo brings authentic izakaya and kaiseki traditions to a charcoal fired kitchen that has earned a devoted following among chefs, food critics, and locals since opening in 2008.

What Kind of Food Does Raku Serve?

Raku specializes in robata (charcoal grilled) dishes prepared over imported Japanese binchotan charcoal, which burns at extremely high temperatures and produces a clean, intense heat. The menu features dozens of small plates including homemade tofu, foie gras with unagi, grilled kurobuta pork belly, and seasonal sashimi sourced from Japanese fish markets. Chef Endo also imports condiments and specialty ingredients directly from Japan to maintain authenticity.

For the full experience, diners can book an omakase (chef's choice) tasting menu. The premium omakase runs $150 for 15 courses over roughly four hours, while a 10 course option is available for $120. A la carte items start as low as $3, making it accessible for diners who want to sample a few dishes without committing to a full tasting. Reservations for omakase require at least three days advance notice by phone.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Raku?

Raku is open Monday through Saturday from 5 PM to 1 AM and closed on Sundays. The late night hours draw off duty chefs and hospitality industry workers from Strip restaurants, creating a unique atmosphere where food professionals gather after their own shifts. That crowd speaks to the quality of the cooking.

Walk ins are possible but reservations are strongly recommended, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Weeknight visits between 5 PM and 7 PM offer the best chance of securing a seat without a long wait. The restaurant's strip mall setting is unassuming from the outside, but the intimate dining room and open kitchen reveal a serious culinary operation once you step inside.

Ryan Rose on Raku and Spring Valley Dining

Ryan Rose considers Raku a standout example of the hidden gems tucked into Spring Valley's Chinatown corridor. A restaurant of this caliber would command premium prices on the Strip, but its Spring Mountain Road location keeps it accessible for regular visits. The surrounding neighborhood offers homes at a fraction of Summerlin prices with equal or better access to dining and entertainment.
