Las Vegas October Heat: Near-Record Highs

Vegas Pumpkin Patch is open every night through Saturday, Oct. 31, in the Cowabunga Bay parking lot at 900 Galleria Dr. in Henderson, and it costs nothing to walk in or park. The hay maze, the kids activity center, the photo spots and the Halloween night party are free too, so a family can spend a whole evening there and only pay for the extras they choose.

That matters in a month where everything seems to cost something. Regular hours are 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily, according to the event's official website. Rides, carnival games and food are paid separately. This guide walks through what is free, what costs money, the new security rules you need to know before you pack a bag, and a few tips that will save you time at the gate.

What Happened

Vegas Pumpkin Patch opened its 2026 season on Friday, Oct. 2. It runs every day through Saturday, Oct. 31. The whole event sets up in one lot: the Cowabunga Bay parking lot at 900 Galleria Dr. in Henderson. Rides, games and food sit together in the lot, with free parking right around it. If you know the Galleria Drive area on the east side of Henderson, you already know roughly where you are going.

The official site lists regular hours as 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It also says closing time can run later on busy nights, especially weekends, and that the patch may close early when crowds thin out. In other words, treat 10 p.m. as the expected close, not a promise. You may see longer weekend hours posted on other event listing sites. We could not confirm those on the official site, so check the official Plan Your Visit page before you head out on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Special Halloween night hours will be announced separately once they are confirmed.

Here is what costs nothing, straight from the event's own admission list: entry, parking, the hay maze, the kids activity center, photo opportunities, and the Halloween party and trick-or-treating on Saturday, Oct. 31, for all ages. The site sums it up as "no ticket, no wristband, no catch." Here is what costs extra: rides, carnival games and food. Games are paid at each booth. Food is paid at each vendor.

The scale is bigger than most people expect from a parking-lot event. The site lists more than 30 carnival rides, more than 30 carnival games and more than 10 food vendors. The ride guide includes names like the Zipper, Gravitron, Ring of Fire, Hi 5 Wheel, Pirate Ship, Scrambler and Octopus for older kids and adults. Little ones get gentler options like the Merry-Go-Round, Lady Bugs, Castle Mania, the Rio Grande Train and a Pumpkin Jump Pad. Each ride takes 5 to 8 individual tickets, depending on the ride. The site's ride guide shows the gentle kiddie rides at the low end (5 tickets) and the big thrill rides at the high end (8 tickets).

Why It Matters to Las Vegas Residents

Free is the magic word for families in the valley right now. A night out with kids can get expensive fast once you add tickets, parking and food. Here, two of those three are gone before you even arrive. You can walk the hay maze, let the kids do the activity center, take pictures with the pumpkin displays and head home without spending a dollar. If the kids beg for one ride, you can buy a few individual tickets instead of a full wristband.

The timing also works for working parents. Because the patch opens at 5 p.m. every day, including weeknights, you do not have to save it for a crowded Saturday. A Tuesday or Wednesday evening after work and homework can be a much calmer visit. Evening hours also help with the weather. Early October in Las Vegas can still run hot, so an evening visit means cooler air for the walk around the lot. Our related story on near-record October highs has more on what to expect this month.

Location matters too. The patch sits on the east side of Henderson, off Galleria Drive, which makes it an easy drive for families in Green Valley, Whitney Ranch, the Sunset Road corridor and much of the east valley. For families in Seven Hills, Anthem, Inspirada or Cadence, it is still a short trip compared with driving across town. Free parking in a big lot is a real perk for anyone who has paid event parking on the Strip.

Halloween night is the other big draw. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the patch hosts a free Halloween party and free trick-or-treating for all ages, with live music and a DJ, according to the event's Halloween page. Costumes are encouraged. For families who live in newer neighborhoods with fewer trick-or-treat streets, or in apartment communities where door-to-door candy is hard, a free, organized option like this one is a big deal. The site calls Halloween "the biggest night of the season," so plan for crowds that night.

There is also a simple way to set a budget before you go. Decide ahead of time whether this is a free night or a ride night. On a free night, the plan is the hay maze, the kids activity center, the pumpkin displays and a walk down the midway to look at the games. On a ride night, pick a wristband or a set number of tickets up front so nobody is surprised at the end. Kids handle "we are doing three rides tonight" much better than an open-ended night at the ticket booth.

Background and History

The patch sets up at Cowabunga Bay, the water park on Galleria Drive in Henderson. In summer, that address means wave pools and water slides. In October, the parking lot turns into a carnival midway with pumpkin displays, hay bales and Halloween decor. That reuse of a big, flat lot with easy freeway access is part of why the event can offer free parking to everyone.

Seasonal pumpkin patches and fall festivals have become an October tradition across the valley. Southern Nevada does not have the farm fields that other parts of the country use for corn mazes and u-pick pumpkins, so local families tend to go where the fall setup comes to them: parks, shopping centers and big event lots like this one. That is why a free hay maze in a Henderson parking lot draws so much interest each year.

The ticket system follows the standard carnival model. You can buy individual ride tickets, a Daily Ride Wristband, or a 2-Hour Ride Pass. A Season Pass is listed, but the site says pricing is still to be announced. Ride wristbands, passes and tickets are sold online through the event's ticketing partner, Magic Money, and redeemed at the Carnival Ticketing Center on site. They are also sold at the patch. The official site says prices are posted at online checkout and at the ticketing center. We are not listing a dollar amount here, because the official pages we reviewed did not publish one. Check online checkout for the current price before you go.

One change families should know about this year is security. The event says it is operating with heightened security procedures for the whole season. Backpacks are not allowed. Purses and diaper bags are allowed, but every bag is subject to inspection before entry. Guests may be screened with handheld metal-detector wands. Outside food and drinks are not permitted, and there is no re-entry once you leave. The site's advice is to arrive with only what you need and to allow a little extra time for screening.

The decor is a big part of the draw, especially for families who want fall photos without driving out of town. The event's Halloween page lists photo spots and displays photographed at the patch, including The Ghost Tent, a Trick-or-Treat Gate in the kids zone, Pumpkin Heads at the carousel, Hay Bale Portraits and The Witch Hat pumpkin display. Since the patch opens at 5 p.m., you can catch golden-hour light for pictures in the first part of the evening, then let the carnival lights take over after dark.

The games side is just as big. The site lists more than 30 carnival games down the length of the lot, with classics like balloon darts, ring toss, a goldfish toss, balloon pop and Lucky Lucky Ducks. Every booth has prizes, and every game is paid at the booth. The site notes the lineup and prizes vary by night.

What Happens Next

The patch runs every night through Saturday, Oct. 31. That gives families four weekends: the opening weekend of Oct. 2 to 4, then Oct. 9 to 11, Oct. 16 to 18 and Oct. 23 to 25, plus Halloween itself on a Saturday. If you want the lightest crowds, a weeknight early in the month is your best bet. If you want the full party atmosphere, Halloween night is the main event.

A few details are still pending, according to the official site. Season Pass pricing is listed as "to be announced." Special holiday and Halloween hours will be announced separately once they are confirmed. The site's Halloween page says rides, games and food are paid on Halloween night just like any other night, while entry, parking, the party, trick-or-treating, the hay maze and the kids activity center stay free.

Keep an eye on the weather too. The event says it does not give refunds for adverse weather, and weather or crowd conditions can affect hours. Windy evenings can shut down some carnival rides for safety, so if wind is in the forecast, consider buying individual tickets on site instead of a wristband in advance. And remember the 9 p.m. rule: the Daily Ride Wristband is valid from opening until 9 p.m., even though the patch itself stays open later. If rides are the main goal, do them first.

One more thing to watch: this is a busy month for free and low-cost family events across the valley. The Summerlin Festival of Arts runs Oct. 9 to 11 on the west side, and a big top circus comes to North Las Vegas starting Oct. 7, both covered in our related stories. If you are building an October calendar for the kids, the pumpkin patch is the one you can fit in on almost any night, since it is open daily for the whole month.

Ryan's Take

Events like this are a big part of why families choose Henderson. When I talk with buyers moving here from out of state, one of the first questions is "What do people actually do here when they are not on the Strip?" The honest answer is stuff like this. A free pumpkin patch you can walk into on a Tuesday night, a hay maze for the kids, a free trick-or-treat party on Halloween. That is the everyday family life that makes the east side of Henderson, Green Valley and the neighborhoods around Galleria Drive feel like a hometown instead of a tourist town.

If you are thinking about buying in Henderson, spend an evening at events like this before you pick a neighborhood. Notice the drive time from the areas you are looking at. Notice how many families you see and where they say they live. Being 10 minutes from a free October tradition every year is the kind of thing that never shows up on a listing sheet, but it shapes how much you love where you live. Southwest valley and Summerlin buyers have their own fall staples, like the Summerlin Festival of Arts, so it is worth comparing what each side of the valley offers.

What You Can Do

Plan your visit with these tips from the official site. First, leave the backpack at home. Bring a small purse or diaper bag only, and expect it to be checked. Second, eat at the patch or eat before you go, because outside food and drinks are not allowed. Third, take care of everything you need from the car before you enter, since there is no re-entry. Fourth, buy ride wristbands, passes or tickets online through Magic Money if you want to skip the line, then redeem them at the Carnival Ticketing Center on any day of the event.

At the rides, check the posted signs. Height, size and weight limits apply on every ride, and some rides have single-rider restrictions. Wristbands must be worn and validated by the attendant on duty, and they are void if removed and cannot be transferred. If only one or two kids in your group want to ride, individual tickets are usually the simpler choice. If everyone wants to ride all night, a wristband saves you from counting tickets. Just remember wristband rides end at 9 p.m.

Carnival food vendors serving funnel cakes, tacos and lemonade at Vegas Pumpkin Patch in Henderson

For food, the site lists carnival classics and real dinner options from more than 10 vendors, including funnel cake, pepperoni pizza, corn dogs, street tacos, elote, loaded fries, chili cheese dogs, nachos, caramel apples, popcorn and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Menus and vendors vary by night. For Halloween, bring a bucket and a costume.
