Charter Schools in Centennial Hills Las Vegas
Charter schools are one of the biggest reasons families choose Centennial Hills over other Las Vegas neighborhoods. With two schools rated 10 out of 10 and a dual credit high school program rated 9 out of 10, this community offers some of the strongest tuition free educational options in the entire state of Nevada.
Coral Academy of Science Centennial Hills
Coral Academy of Science operates its Centennial Hills campus at 7951 Deer Springs Way, serving 691 students in grades K through 8. The school earns a perfect 10 out of 10 GreatSchools rating and ranks 15th among all Nevada elementary schools and 10th among Nevada middle schools. Math proficiency reaches 63 percent and reading proficiency hits 74 percent, both significantly above the state averages of 30 percent and 43 percent respectively.
The curriculum emphasizes math, science, and technology with a Project Lead The Way program that introduces students to engineering and computer science concepts. Coral Academy is a tuition free public charter school, and admission is handled through a lottery system. The student to teacher ratio of 30 to 1 is higher than average, but the school's results show that its instructional model delivers strong outcomes despite larger class sizes.
Somerset Academy Sky Pointe
Somerset Academy Sky Pointe is one of the few charter schools in Las Vegas that serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade, enrolling 2,152 students on its Sky Pointe Drive campus. The school earns a 10 out of 10 GreatSchools rating and ranks in the top 10 percent of all Nevada schools for overall test performance. Math proficiency stands at nearly 62 percent and reading proficiency reaches 63 percent.
The K through 12 structure allows families to keep their children at one school system from the earliest grades through graduation, which is a significant advantage for consistency and community building. Somerset's graduation rate ranges from 81 to 84 percent over the past three years, and the school maintains a student to teacher ratio of 23 to 1.
Ryan Rose notes that Somerset's comprehensive grade range is a major draw for families relocating to Centennial Hills. Knowing your child can attend the same school community from kindergarten through senior year provides stability that is hard to find elsewhere in Las Vegas.
Nevada State High School Northwest
For juniors and seniors seeking a nontraditional path, Nevada State High School Northwest at 7240 West Azure Drive offers a tuition free dual credit program. Students take real college courses taught by college professors on actual college campuses, with NSHS covering tuition and fees for up to 19 courses. The campus earns a 9 out of 10 GreatSchools rating and serves approximately 122 students.
Reading proficiency falls between 70 and 74 percent, the graduation rate is 95 percent, and the average ACT score is 23. Many graduates leave with enough college credits to enter university as sophomores, saving families significant money on higher education costs.
How Charter School Enrollment Works
All three charter schools use a lottery based admission system, which means enrollment is not guaranteed by home address. Families interested in these schools should submit applications early, as demand consistently exceeds available seats. Ryan Rose advises families moving to Centennial Hills to apply to charter lotteries as soon as they begin house hunting, since timelines for school applications and home purchases often overlap.
Even if a lottery spot does not come through immediately, waitlists do move, and the traditional public schools in Centennial Hills still perform above district and state averages.
