What Happened

The Golden Knights announced their 2026-27 preseason schedule on June 22, 2026. The schedule was reconfirmed alongside the September 1, 2026 single game ticket release for the regular season.

Here is the full four-game slate. Saturday, September 19: at the Los Angeles Kings, played at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. Tuesday, September 22: at the San Jose Sharks, played at SAP Center. Thursday, September 24: home against the Utah Mammoth at T-Mobile Arena, 7 p.m. Saturday, September 26: home against the San Jose Sharks at T-Mobile Arena, 7 p.m.

Four preseason games is on the short end. NHL teams have historically played six or more exhibition games. The compression is tied to the schedule change this season. The 2026-27 campaign is the first with an 84-game regular season, which pushes the calendar earlier and squeezes the exhibition slate.

The Toyota Arena game is worth a note for anyone who might travel. Toyota Arena is in Ontario, California, in the Inland Empire, not in downtown Los Angeles. It is roughly a three and a half hour drive from Las Vegas on Interstate 15 in normal traffic. Neutral-site preseason games in smaller markets are common, and tickets there are usually inexpensive.

The home opener of the exhibition slate on September 24 is against the Utah Mammoth. Utah is the newest franchise in the Western Conference and a natural regional rival for Vegas given the drive between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.

The September 26 home game against San Jose is the second half of a home and home with the Sharks, since the two clubs also meet September 22 at SAP Center. That is a common preseason arrangement. It cuts travel costs and lets both teams evaluate players in back to back looks.

Regular season opening night is Tuesday, September 29 against the Chicago Blackhawks at 7:30 p.m. Vegas has built a tradition around its home opener, and the pregame production at T-Mobile Arena is one of the more elaborate in the league.

The compressed calendar means the whole thing happens fast. Camp opens September 16, the first exhibition game is September 19, and the season starts September 29. That is under two weeks from the first skate to games that count. Teams do not have much runway to sort out problems this year.

For anyone tracking the full month, the sequence looks like this. Rookie camp and main camp in the middle of September, two road exhibition games, two home exhibition games, then opening night. Every date in that stretch is a Golden Knights date, which is unusual for a month that normally belongs to football in most cities.

Why It Matters to Las Vegas Residents

Cost is the headline. NHL tickets are expensive. Preseason tickets are not, at least not by comparison. For a family in Henderson, North Las Vegas, or Spring Valley that has wanted to try a Golden Knights game but balked at the price of a regular season seat, these two September dates are the opening.

Parking and crowd size help too. Preseason games do not sell out the way regular season games do. That means shorter lines at the gates, easier concessions, and more room to move around. If you have young kids who might not last three periods, a lower-pressure night is worth a lot.

The Saturday date on September 26 is the family-friendly one. A 7 p.m. Saturday puck drop means no school the next morning and no work commute to worry about. The Thursday game on September 24 works better for people who want a quieter building and a shorter line at the box office.

There is also a practical reason to care about who plays. Preseason rosters are heavy on young players and depth candidates. Some of them will be regulars in a year or two.

T-Mobile Arena sits on the Strip near Park MGM and New York-New York, which makes a preseason game an easy add-on to a night out. Locals often forget how simple it is to make a Strip evening out of a hockey game. The Toshiba Plaza area outside the arena hosts events and has bars and restaurants within a short walk.

For residents who work in hospitality, and that is a large share of this valley, September is a decent month to grab a weeknight game before the fall convention season gets heavy. Once October arrives, the calendar tightens for a lot of people who work on the Strip.

Traffic is another quiet benefit. Regular season Golden Knights nights stack on top of Strip traffic that is already heavy. A preseason Thursday is a much easier drive in from Summerlin, Green Valley, or Aliante. If the idea of Strip parking has kept you from going to a game, this is the low-stress version.

One caution worth stating plainly. Star players often sit out preseason games or play limited minutes. If your goal is to see a specific player, check the projected lineup before you buy. If your goal is to see live NHL hockey with your family for a reasonable price, that goal is fully met either night.

Background and History

T-Mobile Arena opened in April 2016, a year before the Golden Knights played their first game. The arena sits just west of the Strip between New York-New York and Park MGM and seats roughly 17,500 for hockey. Fans call it The Fortress, a nickname that grew out of the team's early home success.

The Golden Knights have been unusually strong at home since the franchise started in 2017. That home ice reputation is part of what makes even preseason games at T-Mobile Arena feel like an occasion. The building has a loud, tight atmosphere that surprises visitors who expect a tourist crowd.

The 84-game schedule is the biggest structural change to the NHL calendar in decades. The league last played 82 games per team going back to the 1995-96 season. Adding two games per team means 42 home dates at T-Mobile Arena this season instead of 41.

The Utah Mammoth are the newest opponent on this list. The franchise relocated to Salt Lake City and has been building its identity since. Utah and Vegas are the two closest NHL markets to each other in the interior West, and a rivalry between them makes geographic sense in a way that few NHL matchups do.

The San Jose Sharks have been a Pacific Division opponent for the entire history of the Golden Knights franchise, including a memorable early playoff series. The Sharks spent recent seasons rebuilding but added veteran defensemen Darnell Nurse and Jacob Trouba this offseason, which makes the September 26 preseason meeting a slightly more interesting look than it would have been last year.

Preseason games at neutral or smaller venues, like the September 19 game at Toyota Arena, serve a purpose beyond the standings. They bring NHL hockey to markets that do not have a team, which grows the sport in places like the Inland Empire. The league has used exhibition games this way for years.

Vegas has also used its preseason as a community showcase. Rookie camp and open practices at City National Arena in Summerlin draw crowds, and those events are usually free. For a lot of families in Clark County, the September stretch is the most accessible the team gets all year.

What Happens Next

Training camp opens September 16, which is the first step. Camp practices set the line combinations you will see in the exhibition games. Coaches usually split the roster for the first road games and bring a more NHL-heavy group to the home dates.

The road games on September 19 and September 22 come first. Expect heavy rotation, plenty of prospects, and lineups that do not resemble opening night. Those games are about evaluation, not results.

By the September 24 and September 26 home dates, the picture should be clearer. The final preseason game is usually the closest thing to a dress rehearsal. If you want to guess the opening night lineup, the September 26 game against San Jose is your best data point.

Roster cuts follow quickly. Players who do not make the NHL club get assigned to the Henderson Silver Knights, and the AHL season begins in October at Lee's Family Forum in Green Valley. That is where a lot of the players you watch in preseason will spend the year.

I tell people this every September and almost nobody listens, so I will say it again. The preseason home games are the best value on the entire Las Vegas sports calendar. You get the same building, the same ice, the same anthem, and the same hot dog for a fraction of what a January game costs.

If you just moved to Clark County, this is the move. Take the family to the September 26 game, figure out where you like to park, learn how the concourse works, and decide whether you want to sit lower bowl or upper. Then buy regular season tickets in October knowing exactly what you are paying for.

I also think the preseason is where you learn to actually like a team. Watching a fourth line prospect fight for a job is more interesting than watching a blowout in February. You pick a guy, you root for him, and suddenly you care about the roster in a way that ticket price alone never buys. That is how a transplant becomes a local, and this valley is full of people who got there through a hockey game.

The relocation buyers I work with ask about this stuff constantly. Where do you take the kids, what is there to do on a weeknight, what does a fall look like here. Two cheap NHL games in September is a real answer, and it is a better one than most cities this size can offer.

What You Can Do

Buy tickets through the Golden Knights official site or the team's ticket partners. Preseason single game tickets are typically available alongside the regular season inventory that went on sale September 1, 2026. Prices are lowest for the upper bowl, and on a non-sellout night the upper bowl at T-Mobile Arena is a genuinely good seat.

Plan your parking before you go. The arena sits between New York-New York and Park MGM, and garage rates on the Strip vary. Rideshare drop-off areas near Toshiba Plaza work well on lighter nights like these. Arriving 45 minutes early is plenty for a preseason game, which is not true in the regular season.

If you cannot make a home date, the Silver Knights season starts in October at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson. Tickets there are a fraction of NHL prices, and many of the players you will see in the preseason will be on that roster. It is the best value hockey in Clark County, full stop.

Mark September 29 on your calendar either way. Opening night against the Chicago Blackhawks is one of the better annual events in this city, and even if you watch it from home, the building will be worth seeing on television.

One last tip for first timers. Get there early enough to walk Toshiba Plaza, the open space between the arena and the Strip. There are bars, food, and usually something happening outside before a game. Even on a quiet preseason night it gives you a sense of why this corner of the valley works the way it does.

And if you are shopping for a home in Clark County right now, factor commute time to the Strip into your list if events matter to you. Summerlin, Henderson, and the southwest all reach T-Mobile Arena in a reasonable drive, but the routes and the traffic patterns are very different depending on which side of the valley you land on. That is the kind of detail that does not show up in a listing photo.
