What Is the Gateway District in Las Vegas?
The Gateway District in Las Vegas is an evolving neighborhood identity for the area around Naked City near the north end of the Strip, centered at the intersection of Main Street and Sahara Avenue.
What Is the Gateway District and Where Is It Located?
The Gateway District refers to the rebranded identity of the Naked City neighborhood and its surrounding blocks on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz championed the revitalization effort, stating that the area is "the gateway into Las Vegas and we want that same transformation to happen." The district encompasses indie shops, vintage clothing stores, and antique stores that have taken root along Main Street and Sahara Avenue.
Developers and city planners envision the Gateway District as a mixed income, working class neighborhood that serves employees of the nearby Strip resorts. The area sits within ZIP code 89102 and covers one of the most densely populated sections of Las Vegas, with a population density near 228,860 people per square mile.
How Is the Gateway District Different from Naked City?
The Gateway District is not a separate neighborhood. It is a rebranding of the same geographic area historically known as Naked City or Meadows Village. The new name reflects a shift in how city leaders and developers want the public to perceive the community. While the Naked City name carries decades of history tied to showgirls and later periods of high crime, the Gateway District label emphasizes the area's future as a revitalized urban corridor.
What Can You Find in the Gateway District Today?
Visitors and residents can browse vintage shops and antique stores that line the main corridors. A showgirl statue and gateway marker sit at the intersection of Main Street and Sahara Avenue, honoring the area's entertainment roots. The Philly at 215, the first new residential construction in the neighborhood in over 65 years, is bringing 87 new units to 215 Philadelphia Avenue.
Ryan Rose, who has toured hundreds of homes in this area, notes that the Gateway District label has started to shift buyer perception in a positive direction. He recommends that buyers research both names when searching for properties because listings may use either Naked City or Gateway District to describe the same location.
