The Holiday Cactus Garden Lights at Ethel M Chocolates in Henderson turn on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, and entry is just $3 a person. This is the 33rd year of the tradition, with about a million lights strung through a desert cactus garden, and it runs nightly through Sunday, Jan. 3, 2027.

Kids under 2 and seniors 65 and older get in free, and you do not need a reservation for the garden. Part of the money goes to two local charities, HELP of Southern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank. New this year, Ethel M is selling a $40 Santa Express Pass that lets a group of up to six skip the line to see Santa at a set time. If you want a cheap, easy holiday night out in the valley, this is one of the first ones of the season, and one of the best deals.

What Happened

News 3 Las Vegas (KSNV) reported in mid-October that Ethel M Chocolates' Holiday Cactus Garden would return with more than 1 million lights. Ethel M's own event page lays out the full schedule and pricing. The garden is at the Ethel M Chocolates Henderson flagship, 2 Cactus Garden Drive, Henderson, NV 89014. That is in the Green Valley area of Henderson.

Here are the hours, from Ethel M's official page:

  • Thursday, Nov. 5 (opening night): 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Nov. 6 to Dec. 23: 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve): 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Dec. 25 (Christmas Day): Closed.
  • Dec. 26 to Dec. 30: 5 to 10 p.m.
  • Dec. 31 (New Year's Eve): 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Jan. 1 (New Year's Day): 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Jan. 2 and Jan. 3: 5 to 10 p.m.

Entry is $3 per person, and Ethel M says you can pay by cash or credit card. Children under 2 and seniors 65 and older get in free. A portion of the proceeds goes to HELP of Southern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank.

The big new item this year is the Santa Express Pass. It costs $40 and covers you and up to five other people. You pick a date and time between Nov. 6 and Dec. 23, and you get front-of-the-line access to Santa. Kids under 2 and guests over 65 do not count toward the six-person limit. Only a limited number of passes are sold each night, and you buy them in advance. Ethel M's page points buyers to FareHarbor, its booking partner.

Opening night has a free performance, too. Ethel M's choir schedule lists the Gunderson Middle School Choir and the Coronado High School Choir at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the pavilion. That is a nice touch for Henderson families, since Coronado is a Henderson high school.

Why It Matters to Las Vegas Residents

Let's start with the price. Three dollars is about as cheap as a holiday outing gets anywhere in the valley. A family of four can walk the garden for $12. If grandma and grandpa are 65 or older, they get in free. If you have a baby under 2, the baby is free too. In a year when a lot of families are watching their budgets, that matters.

Second, it is close to home for a big chunk of the valley. The garden sits in the Green Valley area of Henderson. For families in Green Valley, Anthem, Seven Hills, Inspirada, Silverado Ranch and the southwest valley, it is a short drive. You do not need to go anywhere near the Strip, deal with resort parking, or plan a whole evening around it. You can eat dinner at home, drive over, walk the lights, grab a hot chocolate and be back home by bedtime.

Third, the money stays local. HELP of Southern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank are both Southern Nevada charities. Three Square is the valley's food bank. When you pay your $3, part of it goes to neighbors who need help, which feels right during the holidays.

There is also the local pride angle. Choirs, bands and dance groups from all over the valley perform at the garden through November and December. Ethel M's schedule lists groups like the Foothills High School Chamber Choir and Orchestra, the Silverado High School Orchestra, the Centennial High School Choir, the Del Sol High School Mariachi Band and several elementary and middle school choirs. If your kid is in one of those groups, this may be their big holiday show. And if not, it is fun to cheer on local students.

Background and History

The Holiday Cactus Garden Lights have been running for 33 years, which makes them a long-running holiday tradition in Southern Nevada. For a lot of families who grew up in Henderson, walking the cactus garden is just part of what December means. Many now bring their own kids.

The setting is what makes it different. Most holiday light shows use pine trees, snowmen and fake snow. This one is set in a desert garden, with lights wrapped around cactus and lining a walkway through the plants. It is a very Las Vegas way to do the holidays. Ethel M also calls out its hot chocolate as one of the famous parts of the visit, and since the garden sits right next to a chocolate shop, that makes sense.

Over the years, the event has added more to do. This season, Ethel M lists special nights in the pavilion:

  • Nov. 11, 5 p.m., Veterans Day: Free entrance with a valid ID, plus 15 percent off in-store purchases for veterans.
  • Nov. 20, 6 p.m., Knights Night: Free entrance if you wear Henderson Silver Knights or Vegas Golden Knights gear. You can also meet Lucky.
  • Dec. 1 to 3, 5 p.m., First Responders Night: Free entrance with a valid ID, plus 15 percent off in-store purchases.
  • Dec. 4 and Dec. 12, 6 p.m., Trivia Nights: $5 plus tax per person, reservations required.
  • Dec. 29, Winter Wonderland: Snow starts at 5:30 p.m., Frozen screenings at 6 p.m., a meet-and-greet with Elsa and Anna, and a face painter. $5 plus tax per person, reservations required.

There is also live music. Ethel M lists Sam Shades on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m., and Jessica Manalo, from Season 27 of The Voice, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m. Adults can visit the holiday bar on select nights, which serves seasonal drinks plus wine and beer, and there is a Merry Mocktail for anyone skipping alcohol. Chocolate tastings are offered too, with an optional wine pairing for guests 21 and older. Reservations for tastings are limited.

What Happens Next

The lights turn on at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. Opening night tends to be busy, so if you want a calmer walk, a weeknight later in November is a good bet. The garden stays open through Jan. 3, 2027, so you have about two months to go.

Santa shows up starting Nov. 6. According to Ethel M, Santa is there every day from 5 p.m. until one hour before closing, through Dec. 23. The line cut-off is 9 p.m. After Dec. 23, Santa heads back to the North Pole, so if your kids want a photo, plan to go before then. You can take your own photos with Santa for free, or buy a photo package from Cashman Photography on site. Ethel M lists these prices, which include sales tax:

  • $35 for one 8x6 photo in a custom frame.
  • $50 for two 8x6 photos in a custom frame.
  • $20 for each additional 8x6 photo.

If you want the Santa Express Pass, buy it early. Ethel M says passes are limited each night. December weekends will probably sell out first, so if you have a specific night in mind, lock it in.

The choir and band schedule runs all through November and December. In November alone, Ethel M lists performances on Nov. 5, 13, 14, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23 and 30. December is even busier. If you want music with your lights, check the schedule on Ethel M's site and pick a night that lines up.

Ryan's Take

I love telling people about this one, because it shows the side of Henderson that makes people want to live here. It is cheap, it is close, and it is the kind of thing you do with neighbors and grandparents, not tourists. When I help buyers compare Henderson to other parts of the valley, I often talk about traditions like this. Green Valley and the surrounding neighborhoods have that small-town feel at the holidays, even though they are part of a big metro.

If you are new to the valley, or thinking about a move to Henderson, go walk the garden one night this season. Then drive through a few of the nearby neighborhoods and see the houses lit up. It is one of the best ways to get a feel for an area. You see how people decorate, how busy the streets are, and how close you are to the things you would actually do on a weeknight. That tells you more than any listing photo can.

What You Can Do

Here is a simple plan for a great night at the Holiday Cactus Garden:

  • Bring cash or a card. The $3 entry can be paid either way.
  • Pick your night. Weeknights are usually calmer. Check the special nights list if you are a veteran, a first responder or a Knights fan, since some nights are free for you.
  • Plan for Santa. Santa is there Nov. 6 through Dec. 23. Line cut-off is 9 p.m. Buy a $40 Santa Express Pass in advance if you want a set time and a shorter wait.
  • Park in the right spot. Ethel M says to park in any Ethel M lot or in the Smith's lot across the street. Do not park in the lots around Green Valley Business Park or Roseman University, or your car may be towed.
  • Leave the dog home. Pets are not allowed in the cactus garden, for their safety. Service animals are allowed under the ADA.
  • Dress for the desert at night. Henderson evenings in November and December can get chilly. Bring a jacket for everyone.

Quick Answers Before You Go

How much does the Ethel M Holiday Cactus Garden cost? Entry is $3 per person. Kids under 2 and seniors 65 and older get in free. Some special nights offer free entry to certain groups, like veterans on Nov. 11, Knights fans in team gear on Nov. 20, and first responders on Dec. 1 to 3, each with the details Ethel M lists.

Do I need a reservation? Not for the garden. You can just show up during open hours. You do need to book ahead for the Santa Express Pass, Trivia Nights, the Winter Wonderland night on Dec. 29 and chocolate tastings.

When is the best time to go? The garden opens at 5 p.m. most nights. Going right at opening can mean a shorter line for Santa and an easier time parking. Later in the evening, it is darker and the lights pop more. Weeknights in November are usually the calmest. The week before Christmas and the nights right after are often the busiest.

How long does a visit take? Ethel M does not list a set time. Many families spend under an hour walking the garden, but if you add a Santa visit, a choir performance, a hot chocolate and a stop in the chocolate shop, plan for more.

Is it stroller friendly? The lights line a garden walkway. Ethel M's page does not give specific stroller or wheelchair details, so if you have questions about access, call guest services before you go.

Can I see Santa after Dec. 23? No. Ethel M says Santa is there through Dec. 23 and not after that. The garden itself stays open through Jan. 3, with Christmas Day closed and shorter hours on Dec. 24, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Make It a Holiday Lights Night in Henderson

One of the best parts of this outing is how easy it is to turn into a full family night. Eat an early dinner, head to the garden right at 5 p.m., walk the lights, catch a choir if one is scheduled that night, then grab a hot chocolate before you leave. On the way home, drive through a few nearby Henderson neighborhoods to see the houses lit up. Many families make it a yearly tradition and take the same photo in the same spot every year, so the kids can see how much they have grown. For grandparents 65 and older, it is a free night out, which makes it an easy invite. And because part of the $3 entry goes to HELP of Southern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank, it is a small way to give back during the season, too.

If you have questions, Ethel M lists its guest services line as 1-800-438-4356, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The full event details, including the choir schedule, the special nights and the holiday bar dates, are on Ethel M's Holiday Cactus Garden page.

And if you want to make it a holiday week, pair it with another local tradition. The free Las Vegas Veterans Day Parade runs on Fourth Street downtown on the morning of Nov. 11, and veterans can head to the cactus garden that evening for free entry with a valid ID.
